Udupi: Absconding accused in 10 cases arrested after 15 years

Udupi, Mar 7, 2026: Udupi city police have arrested an accused who had been absconding for the past 15 years after being involved in a total of 10 cases registered under the jurisdiction of the Udupi Town police station.

The accused has been identified as Vighneshwar Aithal (56), a native of Koravadi Road in Kumbhashi, Kundapur, and currently residing in a rented house in RK Mutt Layout, Bengaluru.


Absconded man

According to the police, Aithal had been absconding since 2011 after the cases were registered against him. Charge sheets had already been filed in all the cases and submitted to the court.

As the accused failed to appear before the court for nearly 15 years, warrants were issued against him more than 10 times. Subsequently, the court declared him an absconding accused.

Acting under the guidance of Udupi Town Police Station Inspector Mahesh Prasad, a team led by SI Bharatesh Kankanwadi along with staff members Prasanna C., Ramesh, and Anand traced and apprehended the accused at Talaghattapura in Bengaluru on March 5.

He was produced before the court on March 6, and the court remanded him to judicial custody.
