Belthangady, Oct 25, 2013: Thousands of people gathered at the Taluk Maidan at Belthangady on October 25, Friday  to demand a CBI investigation into the rape and murder of Ujire SDM College student Sowjanya that took place a year ago. Shops  across the taluk  also remained closed during the day as a mark of support for the cause of Sowjanya. Autorickshaw drivers of the taluk too stood in support of Sowjanya.

The meeting  was attended by several leaders including Kemar Sandeepani Ashram seer Sri Esha Vittaldasa Swamiji,  Mahesh Shetty Timarody, President of Prajaprabhutva Vedike,  Devananda, father of Padmalatha who was mysteriously killed several years ago in Dharmasthala, Dr Harale whose wife too met a suspicious death years ago, Madhusudan of District Committee of Rama Sene, Sowjanya’s parents Kusumavathi and Chandappa Gowda, sister Saundarya, writer Athrady Amritha Shetty and many others attended the meeting and put forth a strong demand to entrust the case  to the CBI in order to ensure justice.

Tight police security is maintained in the town and additional police forces from Venur, Bantwal and Kundapur have been  deployed. Even the SP and ASP are camping at Beltangady to ensure peace during the protest meet convened by Prajaprabhutva Vedike.
