Team Mangalore to organize international kite festival on Jan 21 – 22

Mangalore, Jan 19, 2012 : Team Mangalore will organize an international kite festival on Panambur Beach on Jan 21 Saturday and Jan 22 Sunday.

Addressing reporters at a press meet held today, Team Mangalore Coordinator Giridhar Kamath said that 17 kite fliers from 7 countries will participate in this event. Some of them are Andrew Beattie of UK and the Al Farsi Team of Kuwait.

The inauguration ceremony will be graced by Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, ONGC Director (technical) P. P. Upadhyaya, and Karnataka Bank MD P. Jayaram Bhat.

Famous kites created by Team Mangalore, kites such as Kathakali, Yakshagana, Pushpaka Vimana, Gajaraja, and others, which have won them plenty of awards at international kite festivals worldwide, will be displayed at this event. Team Mangalore will also display its brand new kite called Avatar Bird Kite.

The highlight of the event will be a night kite flying event, which will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, displaying kites flown in the midst of high power lights.


An exhibition of kites, based on the theme “My kite to God,” created by differently abled kids, will be held on the second day.


Sarvesh Rao, Dinesh Holla, and Nithin Shetty, all members of Team Mangalore, were present.
