Mangalore, Sept. 23, 2012: Team Mangalore, a group of avid kite fliers from Mangalore, represented India at the 17th Dieppe International Kite Festival held in Dieppe, France from September 7 to September 16, during which they displayed some of their best kites.
The team comprised Dinesh Holla, Sarvesh Rao, Shashank Shetty, Sathish Rao, and Pran Hegde.
This 10-day event attracted kite fliers from more than 40 countries, and Team Mangalore displayed famous kites such as Gajaraja, Yakshagana, Charlie, Owl, Avatar Bird, Vimana, and others. The team also conducted workshops for children, teaching them how to make fighter kites. They also distributed kites among the children for free.
They also created awareness about Indian culture by distributing bindis among the women and lapel pins among the children. They took part in the grand parade wearing traditional Indian dresses.
Dinesh Holla’s Gray Wings, an exhibition of his line art sketches, was greatly appreciated.
Team Mangalore has taken part in a wide range of international kite festivals in Canada, Korea, France, UK, Thailand, Korea, and Shri Lanka. Recently, Team Mangalore took part in the international kite festival at Italy.
Team Mangalore’s new kites Garuda and The Five Elements, in keeping with the festival’s theme, illustrated Indian culture and won the appreciation of all.
