Mangaluru, Sep 23, 2025: Highway patrol police, along with local youths, earned public praise after swiftly clearing a large gravel spill on National Highway 66 near the Surathkal junction, averting what could have been a major accident.
The gravel, which had fallen from a truck transporting jelly stones, had spread across nearly 100 meters of the road. Head Constable Mahantesh Kilari (HC 421) and driver Anand Meti (APC 2542), who were on patrol duty, quickly spotted the hazard and sought help from 5–6 youths working in nearby shops.
Working together, they collected and removed an estimated 10 baskets of gravel. Later, a National Highways Authority vehicle was called in to transport the debris away.
The timely action of the patrol staff and locals not only prevented possible mishaps but also drew widespread appreciation for their alertness and public service.
