Udupi: Moving car catches fire in Shirva; passengers escape unhurt

Udupi, Feb 10, 2026: A car travelling from Mangaluru to Shirva suddenly caught fire on the road near Nyarm Sri Jarandaya Daivasthana around midnight on Monday.

Thanks to the driver’s presence of mind, all five occupants escaped unhurt.

According to reports, while the vehicle was passing through the Nyarm area, smoke began billowing from the engine compartment. Sensing danger, the driver immediately pulled over to the roadside and asked the four family members accompanying him to get out of the car. Within moments of their exit, the vehicle was engulfed in flames and was completely gutted in a short time.

Local residents rushed to the spot on noticing the fire and attempted to extinguish it by spraying water from nearby houses. However, the blaze had already spread rapidly, reducing the car to ashes.
