Bantwal, Jul 24, 2026: Vittal police have arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly sharing a communally sensitive post on social media that gave a religious angle to the ongoing NEET protest and was allegedly intended to promote enmity between communities and disturb public peace.

According to the police, the complainant, a member of the KFC KHANDIGA WhatsApp group, noticed a screenshot shared in the group on Thursday, July 23. The message allegedly contained content capable of inciting communal disharmony and disturbing public tranquillity.

During verification, police found that the same content had allegedly been posted on the WhatsApp status of Bharat (36), a resident of Kaipu in Bantwal.

Based on the complaint, Vittal police registered a case in Crime No. 160/2026 under Sections 197(1)(a), 197(1)(c), and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

The accused was subsequently arrested, and further investigation is underway.
