Mangaluru, Feb 11, 2026: Stagnant and foul-smelling water has been reported in a stream flowing into the Phalguni River near the Rayikatte area of Kuloor, with several fish found dead, raising serious environmental concerns. The condition has reportedly persisted for over a week, but the district administration has failed to take any remedial action.
Local residents allege that industries in the area have, for several years, been illegally discharging industrial effluents into multiple streams that ultimately merge with the Phalguni River. Despite repeated protests and complaints, no effective action has been taken by the authorities.
Environmental activist Muneer Katipalla told the media that the situation has now reached alarming levels, posing a grave threat to the river ecosystem and public health. He urged the administration to conduct an immediate investigation and initiate strict action against those responsible for the pollution.
