Students can modify options online : KEA nodal officer

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, July 11, 2012: C. Suresh Thunga, nodal officer of the Mangalore Helpline Centre for the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), said that students trying to get admitted to professional courses for 2012 -13 through KEA can modify their options as many times as they like during online selection of courses and colleges from July 12 – 18.

Addressing reporters on July 10, Tuesday, which happened to be the last day for document verification, Mr. Thunga said that students can select their course and college use a secret password, which they will receive after document verification. He said that, whenever a student modifies his/her college and course, he/she has to hit the “Update” tab, failing which the centralized system will not accept the new choice.

He also said that, irrespective of a student’s choice, the system will allot just one seat in the medical, dental, ayurveda, homeopathy, engineering, naturopathy, unani, architecture, or yoga courses based on the student’s rank. The student will not receive two seats under any circumstances. He, therefore, urged students to enter their choice of college and course carefully.

Mr. Thunga also said that the KEA Helpline Centre at National Institute of Technology – Karnataka (NIT-K) in Suratkal has only 15 old computers, owing to which Internet connection is very slow. He, therefore, urged candidates not to come to NIT-K to enter their options as they would have to wait for long hours. Since the KEA does not give time limits for students, any student choosing to enter their options at NIT-K can take as much time as he/she wishes. Other students will, therefore, have to wait long. He, therefore, urged students to use cyber cafes or Internet facilities in their own homes to enter their choice.

He also warned students against getting fooled by certain educational institutions that claim to have made arrangements for students to enter their choice in their computer labs. Stating that students can easily get misguided at such institutions, he urged students not to allow external factors to influence them while making a choice.

He said that the KEA decided to set up all its 13 Helpline Centres in government educational institutions this year just to prevent students from being misguided.

The KEA has given each student a handbook and a compact disc, which explains the process. Students can also get the required information by logging into the KEA website, he said.
