Mangalore, Nov 15, 2011: District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar inaugurated a state-level event organized as part of the 58th Akhila Bharata Sahakari Sapthaha in the Loyola Hall of St. Aloysius College today. 


Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the state government has launched a number of schemes for the benefit of the poor. The government is providing loans at low rates of interest to farmers, enabling cooperative societies to assist the poor in large numbers. He also urged the cooperative societies to reach this scheme to as many beneficiaries as possible.

Palemar also introduced a brand new scheme titled Chinnabharana Kharidi Sala or loans to purchase jewelry, in which beneficiaries can obtain loans as large as Rs. 10 lakh to purchase jewelry. 


G. T. Devegowda, the president of the Karnataka State Cooperative Federation, presided over the event. 


N. Yogish Bhat, the deputy speaker of the Karnataka Assembly, felicitated B. Padmanabha Borkar, the president of the Panaje Agricultural Cooperative Society of DK District, and S. Dinakar Shetty, the president of the Primary Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank of Udupi District. 


Speaking on the occasion, he said that several cooperative societies are harassing people instead of doing their duties, owing to which people should develop awareness of the societies they decide to depend on.
M. N. Rajendra Kumar, the president of the South Canara District Central Cooperative (SCDCC) Bank, felicitated the presidents of six cooperative societies. He said that a cooperative society provides job opportunities to people in cities as well as villages while multi national companies provides jobs only to people in cities. 


Kudroli Ganesh, the Mangalore-based magician, launched new KMF products such as chocolate-flavored milk, Kokum fruit punch, 1kg curd packets, kova, and diced paneer. 


Raviraja Hegde Kodavooru, the president of the DK District Milk Union; K. T. Shailaja, the president of the DK ZP; Kishan Hegde Kolkebail; Lakshman Kumar Malloor, the managing director of SCDCC Bank; P. B. Diwakar Rai, the chairman of DK District Co-operative Union; K. H. Thimmayya; B. S. Harish; and many others were present on the dais.
