Mangalore, August 2, 2012: The allegation that the state government is protecting saffron elements in society has turned out to be true. An RTI application has revealed that the state government has withdrawn a number of cases filed against saffron organizations. Ever since the BJP came to power in 2008, it has withdrawn around 369 cases related to communal violence, rioting, and others filed against pro Hindu organizations. The government has also withdrawn 128 cases filed against BJP leaders.

Mangalore AttackA number of BJP leaders such as K. S. Eshwarappa, deputy chief minister of Karnataka; C. T. Ravi, higher education minister; MLA Anathkumar Hegde; Jagadish Karanth, chief of the Hindu Janajagarana Vedike (HJV), and ABVP leader Ravikumar have also escaped the clutches of the law thanks to these favors bestowed on them by the state government, which has withdrawn 8 cases filed in 2008, 29 cases filed in 2009, 88 cases filed in 2010, 2 cases in 2011 and
2 cases in 2012 till date.

In 1993, a case was filed against K. S. Eshwarappa and others for creating disturbance on the occasion of immersing the statue of Ganesh in Shimoga. The state government withdrew this case as soon as it came to power. All the 11 cases filed against C. T. Ravi, higher education minister for Karnataka, were withdrawn in 2009. A case filed against Ananthkumar Hegde for delivering a hate speed in Chikmagalur in 2001 was withdrawn in 2012. The five cases filed against HJV Chief Jagadish Karanth and the case filed against Sunil Kumar for delivering a hate speech in 2005 was also withdrawn.
