Mangalore, June 3, 2012: St. Aloysius College (autonomous) held its second graduation ceremony in Loyola Hall on June 2, Saturday.
Prof. P. Balaram, director of the Indian Institute of Science, said in his address that the gap between various streams such as medicine, science, engineering, and humanities must be narrowed. He also objected to the use of the word “professional” for courses such as medicine and engineering, which suggests that other courses are “unprofessional.”
The graduate and post graduate rank holders were honored with certificates and medals.
Fr. Joseph Rodrigues SJ, rector of St. Aloysius Institutions and vice president of Mangalore Jesuit Education Society (MJES), and Fr. Francis Serrao SJ, provincial for Karnataka, addressed the gathering.
Among the dignitaries on the dais were members of the governing council and deans. Fr. Swebert D’Silva, principal, delivered the welcome address and introduced the chief guest. Dr. Ivan Pinto delivered the vote of thanks, and Dr. Smitha Hegde was the MC.
