Mangalore, May 08, 2014: Several corporators who participated in a special session of the City Corporation convened here to discuss the issue of solid waste disposal contract, took strong exception to the fact that they were not taken into confidence on the issue.





They complained that they were unaware that the solid waste disposal contract was being given to Antony Waste Handling Cell Private Ltd(AWHCPL) of Mumbai. They said though they knew that discussions were being held in this regard over the past five years, they were kept in the dark about the present developments.
It has been learnt that the state government has already agreed to handing over of the contract to the Mumbai based company.
Mayor Mahabala Maarla tried his level best to cool down the irked corporators and said the meeting was convened to discuss the issue to them and assured to keep them informed on the further developments regarding the issue.
Several corporators including Deepak Poojari, DK Ashok and Ashok Poojary wanted to know if the awarding of the contract would be able to put an end to the existing problem.
Meanwhile, the representative of the Mumbai based company who was present at the meeting said the company has been handling similar works since three decades and added it plans to divide the city into two parts to better handle the problem and and added 25 km stretch of the road would be swept through machines.
MCC Commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde, Deputy Mayor Kavitha Vasu, Joint Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak and others were present.
