Udupi, Jan 17, 2012 : Irrespective of the controversies surrounding this year’s Paryaya Festival, Swami Vishwavallabha Teertha of Sode Vadiraja Mutt will ascend the Paryaya Peeta at Shri Krishna Mutt at 4:00 p.m. on Jan 18 Wednesday in the presence of all the swamijis of the eight mutts of Udupi. He will be the 36th swamiji to ascend the Paryaya Peeta.

On this occasion, the Paryaya Prashati will be conferred on Vidwan Katte Vadirajacharya, the philosopher; Retired Justice B. N. Shreekrishna; Vidwan R. K. Padmanabha, the renowned musician; Dr. Shreepathi Rao Manipal; Dr. Ganjeefa Raghupati Bhat, the widely acclaimed artist from Mysore; Kumble Sundar Rao for his contributions to Yakshagana; Sudha Murthy, the chairperson of Infosys Foundation for her social service; Dr. Mohan Alva, the chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, for his contributions to education; and Sandhya S. Pai, the editor of Taranga Kannada weekly for literature.

Dignitaries such as D. V. Sadananda Gowda, Udupi District-in-charge Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya, DK District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes, along with many other MLAs will attend the Paryaya Festival. Even retired Supreme Court and High Court judges will be present.

Life and works of Sode Seer Shri Visvawallabha Teertha Swamiji


Born to Vedamurthi Padigar Shrinivas Tantri and Vedavathi on March 24, 1991 and named Raghava Tanthri, the swamiji studied at Padigar and finished his SSLC with a first class.


His Guru Vishvottam Teertha renamed him as Vishvawallaba Teertha on June 14, 2006 at the Sode Mutt. His Gurus Swami Vishvottam Teertha and Vedamurthi Konandoor Gopalakrishna Acharya gave him spiritual and religious training at the Sode Mutt.


Swami Vidhyasagar Teertha of Krishnapura Mutt and Uday Kumar Saralattaya taught him the Vedas while Raghavendra Puranik taught him grammar.


Swami Vishwavallabhateerth upgraded the primary school established by his Guru in Innanje to the high school and PU college. He also established an English medium school in the locality. He also played an active role in establishing the Madhvadiraj Technology and Management Institute in Vishvottam Nagar in Bantakal and spends most of his time and energy in taking care of the institutions established by his Guru.


He also bears the credit of constructing a number of cow shelters, renovating the Renjala branch of the Sode Mutt, promoting Vedic studies and literature by publishing the quarterly Tatvamallika, and building Raja Dhama, a guest house in Sode Mutt.


Paryaya Festival Schedule


Dr. Gururaj K. Nippani of Bellary will deliver a religious discourse from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Vidwan R. K. Padmanabhan with B. Raghuram on the violin, C. Cheluvaraj on mridangam, and Dayanand Mohite on Ghatam will deliver a performance from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on January 18.


Dr. Manakari Shrinivasacharya of Bellary will deliver a religious discourse from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Vidwan Vittal Ramamurth with Padma Shankar on violin, Patri Satishkumar on mridangam, and V. Suresh on Ghatam will deliver a violin recital on January 19.


Vidwan B. N. Vijayeendracharya of Mysore will deliver a religious discourse from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., after which Vidushi Bombay Jayashree will deliver a Carnatic vocal concert with H. N. Bhaskar on violin, Manoj Shiva on mridangam, and Anirudh Atreya on ghatam on January 20.


Vidwan Rameshacharya Tumkur will deliver a religious discourse from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Jan 21 followed by a Veena recital by Vidwan Rajesh Vaidhya and his group from Chennai.


On January 22, Vidwan Purshkara Prasad Acharya of Tumkur will deliver the religious discourse from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. followed by Krishnanjali, a ballet by the Rechita Nruthyalaya of Chennai, directed and choreographed by Vidwan Vijaya Madhavan.


On Jan 23, Dr. M. Udaya Kumar Saralattaya Nidle will deliver the religious discourse from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., followed by a Carnatic concert by Vidwan T. M. Krishna of Chennai with Vittal Ramamurthi on violin and Thiruvaarur Bakthavathsalam on mridangam.


On Jan 24, Vidwan Raghavendra Puranic of Udupi will deliver the religious discourse from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., followed by a yakshagana prasanga titled Samarabheema Bheemajata by Tenkutittu and Badagatittu artists.


Preparations


Udupi is getting decked up with artificial lights and hoardings for the Paryaya Festival. The Shri Krishna Mutt has already started receiving head load offerings from various organizations and individuals.


The Paryaya Reception Committee has arranged a felicitation program in honor of Swami Laxmivara Teertha Swamiji of Shiroor Mutt on Jan 17 Tuesday at 8:00 p.m., for which CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda, several ministers, and dignitaries will be present.


Police teams comprising a total of 750 police officers have been deployed from Chikmagalur, DK, Shimoga, Hassan, Uttar Pradesh, and other places, under the leadership of four DySPs. Besides, 100 policewomen and a crime squad comprising 100 police officers will maintain peace and law and order during the festival. The police have also launched a mobile campaign in a bid to create crime awareness among the public.
