Mangalore, March 16, 2013 : N Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University, has said that society must engage itself in charity works by considering it as a duty.
Speaking after inaugurating the bi-decennial celebrations of Seva Bharathi, a voluntary organization at the Town Hall here on March 15, Friday, he said there will be no dearth of funds for charity works. He at the same time urged service organizations not to expect grants from the government and try to make it on their own with the help of donations from various quarters. He said the differently abled kids are a blessed lot as God will always shower plentiful of love on them.
The children have also given an opportunity to the society to serve them, he added.
Sri Poornakamananda Swamiji of Ramakrishna Mutt,who presided over the function, said God resides in each and every individual and we should recognize the divinity within ourselves. An individual will learn a lot of things in the process of rendering service to the society, he observed.
Bharathi Vasudev Shenoy, Founder Trustee of Seva Bharathi and Sumathi Shenoy, Trustee, were honoured for their contributions to the society.
Students of Chetana Child Development Centre and Roman & Catherine School for the Blind, presented cultural programmes.
