Mangalore, October 19: Deputy Commissioner V. Ponnuraj has instructed people purchasing sites for residential purposes to ensure that it has at least 30ft of access road. Prospective purchasers have been invited to approach the Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) offices to see if the access road details have been entered in the “pahani” (record of rights, tenancy, and crops) or in the “khata” of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC).
The DC has issued this directive because a number of site buyers have complained about lack of access roads to sites under MUDA. Such plots could be “patta” land granted under Land Reforms Act. The district administration has noticed that such land constructed from agricultural to non agricultural purposes has been sold to construct houses.
Since single sites are sold without first ensuring that they have access road of 30ft width, the DC has directed land purchasers to request the sellers to produce the required records either from MUDA or MCC and only then purchase such land. People who ignore this directive will be responsible for any future legal complication.
