Siddaramaiah’s GST remarks show desperation, says MP Brijesh Chowta

Siddaramaiah’s GST remarks show desperation, says MP Brijesh Chowta

Mangaluru, Oct 22, 2025: The Narendra Modi-led central government has made a historic decision by reducing GST rates, thereby easing the tax burden on the common people. However, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, whose poor economic decisions have damaged the state’s financial stability for the sake of vote-bank politics, is unable to digest the popularity of these reforms. As a result, he is resorting to false statements out of desperation, alleged Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta.

Reacting strongly to Siddaramaiah’s remarks during his visit to Puttur on october 20 — where the CM downplayed the benefits of the GST rate cuts that have positively impacted people across Karnataka and the entire nation — Chowta criticized the Chief Minister for making light of a major economic reform.

"His remarks resemble the Kannada saying – ‘a person who cannot achieve something scratches himself in frustration,’" Chowta said. He added that Siddaramaiah’s claim of a ₹15,000 crore loss to Karnataka due to GST has no factual basis. Instead of accepting his government’s financial failures, the Chief Minister is repeatedly blaming the Modi government, indulging in cheap political tactics that don’t befit his position, he said.

Chowta pointed out that the Modi government’s overhauling of the GST slab system has brought tangible economic benefits to every citizen in the country. Despite this, Siddaramaiah continues to mislead the public with baseless statements, without providing any data or proof.

“Congress, which once created an uproar claiming that GST was a tool to loot the people, is now crying that GST cuts are causing losses to their government. This shows clear political double standards,” Chowta said.

He further alleged that Siddaramaiah is spreading misinformation about GST purely for political reasons. The Congress government, under Siddaramaiah, is using the Centre as a scapegoat for its economic mismanagement, corruption, and extravagant spending. From the unrealistic guarantee schemes to the MUDA scam and Valmiki scheme controversy, Chowta said there is a long list of administrative failures under Siddaramaiah’s leadership.

“Trying to cover all this up by making irresponsible and baseless allegations against GST reforms — which have been widely welcomed across the country — is completely unacceptable,” he concluded.
