Mulki, Oct 10, 2013 : A serial accident occurred at the Haleyangady Junction on the NH 66 during the early hours of October 10 after the driver of a lorry who was in a state of slumber lost control over the vehicle.
The lorry eventually plunged into two shops damaging them and also hit against a parked scooter.
The accident took place at around 4.30 am. Eyewitnesses said the lorry went out of control and veered to the extreme left of the road. It then barged into a petty shop owned by Udaya and a milk booth of Krishna. Later, it moved on the divider and collided against a parked scooter. The scooterist was however lucky as he was standing a bit apart and was talking to a friend.
A major casualty was also averted as the shops were not yet open. Both the shops and the scooter have been badly damaged.
The lorry driver has been taken into custody by the Mulki police.
