Roshni Nilaya organizes state-level seminar on cyber crime

Mangalore, Sep 14, 2012: The department of criminology at Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work in collaboration with the Mangalore Police Commissionerate organized a state-level seminar on cyber crime in the college auditorium on September 14, Friday. 


IGP (western range) Prathap Reddy inaugurated the seminar. In his address, he said that tampering with someone else’s documents is a crime. Regarding the use of mobile phones, he said that usually criminals make wrong use of mobile phones belonging to others. He also suggested that many such seminars must be organized to enhance awareness on cyber crimes and prevent them.

Stating that DK is known for his high literacy rate and progressive thinkers, he urged students to understand the value of seminars as they can teach them the proper use of the Internet and mobile phones. 


He then unveiled the logo of the criminology department. 


Dr. B. Ashok, professor of criminology, spoke about the event, and Saritha D’Souza delivered the welcome address. Dr. Sophia N. Fernandes, principal of Roshni Nilaya, presided over the event.


Expressing hopes that the seminar will create a friendly relationship between the police and the students, she said that cyber crime is a complex and widespread crime. 


Police officers Kavitha and Abhishek Goyal, Dr. Jacintha, former principal of Roshni Nilaya, and traffic and crime police officers were also present. 


M. D. Sharath, CID detective inspector of Bangalore, spoke on cyber crimes and different types of cyber crimes. Dr. A. Mohan Ram, coordinator, special officer director of distance education at Kuvempu University, spoke on cyber law.
