Udupi, January 26: Republic day was celebrated in Udupi with State higher Education Minister Dr V S Acharya unfurling the National flag at Ajjarakadu Mahatma Gandhi Ground on Wednesday, January 26.
The Republic day was celebrated under the joint aegis of district Republic Day Celebrations Committee and district administration.
Speaking after unfurling the national flag, Minister Dr V S Acharya said that the present government has succeeded to materialize several projects across the state. The main aim of the government is total development of the state as well as the citizens of the state, he added.
He informed that Rs 20 lakh has been kept separate for the development of tourist location and to set up a tourist resort in the district. Under Gramodaya plan a budget of Rs 24.10 crore has been reserved to solve the water-related issues and for the setting up of houses for the poverty-stricken families.

Acharya also presented district Republic day award to Common Wealth games gold winner Akkunje Ashwaini Shetty, Mamatha Poojary, Preethi, Soumyashree, Udayakumar Shetty Kannar, Arunakala S Rao and U Sudha Prabhu on the occasion.
MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Zilla Panchayat president Gladis Almeida, town municipal president Kiran Kumar, vice-president Bharati Chandrashekar, Taluk Panchayat president Shyamala Sudhakar were present at the ground.
