Kaup, Jan 31, 2014 : Relics of an ancient idol of Hoysala kingdom were unearthed during an excavation near the Ellampalli Vishnumurthi Temple by a team from the Department of History and Archaeology of the Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty College of Shirva.
According to Prof. T Murugeshi of the Department only the feet portion of the idol measuring about 24 cm has been found. Based on the style of architecture and the stone used for the same, it is predicted that it is the relic of the idol of Chenna Keshava or Lord Janardhana of the times of the Hoysalas in 14th century.
Researcher Sridhar Bhat Kalianpur, Temple Renovation Committee Honorary President Prof Y Bhasker Shetty, Committee President T Jayaram Shetty, Secretary Karunaker Shetty and others were present.
