Rashtra Sevika Samithi to help distressed women of Uttarakhand

Mangalore, Oct 17, 2013  : The Rashtra Sevika Samithi in a novel gesture  has decided to  uplift women whose lives have been shattered in the Uttarakhand  floods.Shantha Kumari, Pramukh Sanchalika of Rashtra Sevika Samithi said that  the Samithi would arrange for re-marriage of interested widows and   hold self-employment training.

 

 

 

In a move in this direction, a team of volunteers of the Samithi has visited  two  villages  near Dehradun and Uttarakashi and found that over 3000 men had either died or have gone missing in the deluge and that their families are in distress, she informed.

There are plans to offer self employment training in five villages, she  said. In a bid to  help female students protect themselves,they have been taught karate and sword fight in various educational institutions under the Athma Suraksha Scheme, Shantha  stated.

She also informed that the Samithi was operating 23 hostels for girls and orphans  across the nation.

A Vibhag Sanghik of Rashtra Sevika Samithi  was also held at Sangha Nikethan in the city
MRPL Deputy General Manager Lekshmi Kumaran presided over the programme.
