RTE MangaloreMangalore, Feb 27, 2013: Dakshina Kannada district tops in the state as far as the number of educational institutions which have applied for registration  under the Right to Information (RTE) Act.


Of the 809 educational institutions here, 163 have applied for registration. Of these highest number of appications i.e 89 are from Bantwal taluk, 35 from Puttur, 20 from Sullia and 19 from Moodbidri.

In Udupi district which stands second, a total of 58 schools have submitted their applications  to the DDPI out of the total 501 schools. Thouh the schools in DK had not evinced much interest in getting registered under the RTE last year, this year however, there is some interst.

In fact, out of 19,966 schools (including aided and unaided) in the State, only 223 schools have applied for RTE registration, so far. In Dakshina Kannada, 168 unaided schools excluding minority run schools,offer 1652 seats under RTE for the first standard.  In Udupi, 74 unaided schools, excluding minority schools, offer 1061 seats under RTE Act.The minority institutions do not come under the purview of the Act and in DK out of the 476 unaided schools, over 177 are minority run schools.In Udupi dstrict, 44 out of the 118 unaided schools are run by minorities.
