Mangalore, Oct 14, 2013: The Bajpe police are in the eye of a storm by providing protection to an RSS march past wherein some RSS men participated with swords in hands on October 11, Friday evening.
The RSS had organised a Prathamik Shiksha Varga at a private school at Sunkadakatte near Bajpe from October 6. October 11 evening, a procession was organised in this regard from Vijaya Vittala Bhajana Mandir, Bajpe to Sunkadakatte. What caught everyone’s attention were the swords in the hands of four RSS men who took part in the procession. The question raised by public is why the police remained mute spectators to this open violation of rules that prohibits lay men from wielding any weapon in public. Moreover, the use of school vehicles to ferry the participants of the camp has also been questioned.
Already, one Abdul Hassainar of Bajpe has lodged a complaint with the Bajpe police against the holding of swords in the RSS procession and has alleged that this has instilled a sense of fear in the area and incited communal tension.
AM Athavulla, District Presidnt of the Popular Front of India too has demanded legal action in this case.
However, Bajpe Inspector Narasimha Murthi has defended the inaction of the cops by saying so “ It is a tradition for RSS men to move in the march past with swords in hands to protect the honour of the RSS flag. Moreover, not all processionists were holding flags in hand. Only four men who were moving in front and behind the flag were holding swords. A person has lodged a complaint and we are looking into it.”
Meanwhile, Panambur ACP Ravikumar said that the department will decide on taking action after finding out if if swords are held in all RSS march pasts organised in other places.
