Puttur murder case – police form 3 teams to find missing husband

Puttur, June 16, 2012 : The police have formed 3 teams to search for Venkataramana Bhat, who is suspected to be absconding after killing his wife and three children at their house in Kakkur, Bettampady, in Puttur.

 

The murdered are school teacher Sandhya V. Bhat (45) and her three children Vinutha (12), Harigovind Sharma (15), and Vedya (18).

The first of the police teams comprises officers from the District Crime Investigation Bureau (DCIB), the second is headed by the assistant superintendent of police for Puttur, and the third is headed by the rural circle inspector. The teams will search for Mr. Bhat in a wide range of places across the country.

The police cannot reach the accused via mobile because he has switched it off and abandoned it in Kakkur before fleeing the village.

Meanwhile, the air was thick with rumors that Bhat was seen on Friday afternoon in Mangalore Airport, but police quickly dismissed the rumors as false.

The police interrogated Vimala, who worked for Mr. Bhat, but she denied knowing anything and the police released her on Friday.

Mr. Bhat had once called a press meet, claiming that he had discovered a machine that could produce electrical energy using gravitational force. Stating that the machine cost Rs. 80,000, he claimed that it could solve power crisis permanently.

The people of the locality, however, are not fond of Mr. Bhat. Calling him a “difficult” person with weird habits, they feel that he is quite capable of murdering his own family. Besides being interested in gravitational force, Mr. Bhat is also an astrologer. His relationships with almost everybody in the locality were strained.
