Puttige Mutt Seer to undergo one-day fast over Paryaya controversy

Udupi, Jan 16, 2012 : Puttige Mutt Seer Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji has decided to observe a one-day fast from 9:00 a.m. on Jan 17 Tuesday to 5:00 a.m. on Jan 18 Wednesday, following the Sode Mutt Swamiji’s failure to invite him for his Paryaya Festival, which is to be held on Jan 18 – 19 this year.

 

The Sode Vadiraja Mutt Swamiji Vishwavallabha Teertha has broken an age-old tradition by refusing to visit Puttige Mutt to offer worship to the presiding deity Lord Panduranga Vittala. In addition, the name of the Puttige Mutt Seer was missing in the formal invitation to the Paryaya Festival, which was printed by the Sode Mutt.

Addressing reporters on Jan 15 Sunday, the Puttige Mutt Seer said that he will go on a one-day protest fast near Madhwacharya’s idol in Lord Anantheshwara Temple, located adjacent to Shri Krishna Mutt. Stating that the behavior of the Sode Mutt Seer is neither justified nor in keeping with the age-old traditions of the Shri Krishna Mutt, the Puttige Seer said that his behavior is socially unhealthy too, considering the fact that he had openly invited him to visit the Puttige Mutt, offer worship to its presiding deity, and invite him for the Paryaya Festival.

Further, the Puttige Mutt Seer said that Swami Vishwavallabha Teertha had refused to budge even when the Pejawar Swamiji had urged him to personally invite the Puttige Mutt Seer to the Paryaya Festival.

Stating that this clearly shows that Swami Vishwavallabha Teertha does not wish his presence at the Paryaya Darbar, he also pointed the finger of blame at Shri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt and said that if the Pejawar Seer, the most senior swamiji, shows interest in the issue, it will be resolved. Stating that the senior swamiji has neither showed interest in the matter nor has given a firm and honest opinion on it, he said that he has decided to go on a fast.
