Protest held to condemn attack on Hebron Assembly Church

Mulky, Jan 2, 2012 : A protest meeting against the attack on Hebron Assembly Church in Haleyangady was held in front of the church on the evening of Dec 31 Saturday.

In his protest address, Rajashekar, the president of the Komu Souharda Vedike in Mangalore, said that the attacks on places of worship have increased after the BJP came to power. Attacks on minority places of worship, which were once happening only in Gujarath, have now become common in places such as Davanagere, DK, and Udupi. He alleged that the Suratkal Police Station and two politicians supported the attackers.

Walter Maben, the president of the Karnataka Mission Network, said that nobody converts from one religion to the other just for money. Pointing out that missionaries are known for their peace-loving nature, he said that no missionary has attacked places of worship belonging to another religious community. He further blamed the police for actually supporting communal forces and doing little to maintain law and order.

Speaking on the occasion, Louis Lobo said that these attacks are by people occupying the lowest levels in communal organizations and demanded that action should be taken not only against the attackers, but also against those who engineer these attacks.

All India Pastors Association President E. W. Frank said that an effective law should be implemented against communal voilence to permanently end such incidents. Voicing his opinion that the Bajrang Dal and the police force is responsible for this action, he said that he will get in touch with the additional director general of police and ensure that a first information report is filed without any delay.

The president of the Komu Souharda Vedike and the pastors of Hebron Assembly churches in the twin districts were also present.
