Bantwal, Feb 27, 2013: Former union minister and senior Congress leader B Janardhan Poojari, on February 27, Wednesday, visited the residence of Sowmya who was killed after a vain molestation bid and consoled the grieving family members.
On this occasion, Poojari handed over a cash of Rs 1.10 lakh to Seetaram Serigara, Sowmya’s father. The amount was raised from party workers at a meeting in Bangalore and includes a personal contribution of Rs 10,000 from Poojari.
Strongly condemning the murder, Poojari said the incident was a blot on the civil society and added he had urged the police department to ensure stern punishment to the killer. Strongly deploring the rise in crime against women, he stressed the need to sensitize the society, particularly youngsters in this regard and urged religious heads too to fight for the cause.
KPCC Secretary Ashwani Kumar Rai, Congress leader Harikrishna Bantwal, ZP members Chandraprakash Shetty, MS Mohammad, Panemangalore Bloc Congress President Abbas Ali, PS Mohan and others were present.
