Mangalore, Mar 22, 2013: Deputy Commissioner N Prakash has informed that the Model Code of Conduct has come into force in the district in view of the assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters on March 22, Friday, he said the code of conduct which has been enforced will continue till May 11 as per the orders of the Election Commission of India.
The election notification will be issued on April 10, while the last date for filing of nomination is April 17, the DC informed. Scrutiny of nominations will be on April 18 while last day for withdrawing nomination is April 20.
The election will be held on May 5 from 8 am to 5 pm and counting of votes will be held on May 8, the DC informed. The DC said the administration will take all necessary steps for a free and fair polls.
He informed that there are a total of 14,61,659 registered voters as per the latest voters’ list and that there will be 1,627 polling centres in the entire district apart from 101 auxiliary voting centres. He said 99.76 per cent of voters have been provided identity cards, the remaining will be given ID cards by booth level officers.
Voters can register their names in voters’ list and also can make any desired corrections till April 13, the DC said.
