Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, Nov 15, 2011 : The Yashwanthpura – Karwar train arrived into Udupi station in the evening of Nov 14 Monday, but political parties almost jostled one another in their anxiety to take credit for the same.

Congress and BJP activists gathered in large numbers at the station when the Yashwanthpura to Karwar train chugged into Udupi station for a long time. Shankar Poojary, the ZP president of Katpady, John Rebello, Ramachandra Acharya, S. S. Tonse, S. T. Kunder, Madhusoodan, and others were present to welcome the train and express their happiness. Sweets were also distributed on the occasion.

Things turned amusing when Congress and BJP workers raised slogans in an attempt to take credit for the extension of this train.

A group of Congress activists Amrith Shenoy, Keerthi Shetty, Yathish Karkera, and others under the leadership of Jayaprakash Hegde were present to welcome the train. They had put up banners bearing images of Muniappa, the state railway minister, Rahul Gandhi, Oscar Fernandes, the AICC secretary, E. Ahmed, and others. They informed reporters that the train was extended because of the efforts of the Congress.

On the other hand, BJP activists and leaders such as Ravi Amin, V. Hegde, Geethanjali Shetty, Katapady Shankar Poojary and others were present to greet the train. They claimed that the train was extended because of the efforts of the Sadananda Gowda, the chief minister.

Unwilling to be left out of the limelight, Devi Prasad Shetty, the Udupi district JD (S) president, said that the JD (S) has played an important role in the introduction of this train. Stating that the train has been extended because of the joint efforts of the centre and the state, he said that the CM cannot be given entire credit for the achievement.
