Mangalore, June 28, 2012: Interacting with media people at a press conference held in the office of the police commissioner in Mangalore today, Lalrokhuma Pachau, director general of police for Karnataka, said that the police department is capable of dealing with all varieties of crimes in the state.
Further, he said that the police department is divided into a number of devoted sections such as intelligence branches, special branches, law and order branches, and so on, which makes it better equipped to deal with crimes and law and order situations.


Speaking about Naxal issues, he said that eight taluks in DK are Naxal infested, adding that the Anti Naxal Force (ANF) has all the required weapons and equipment to deal with the situation.
Addressing reporters on the occasion, A. M. Prasad, additional DGP (crime), said that, during the last decade, the police department has undergone a lot of development. The police departments in coastal areas have been strengthened especially after the Mumbai attacks of 26/11. He said that the police department now has an Anti Terror Squad to deal with terrorist activities. Further, he said that the commissionerate model in the state has been very successful, owing to which other states are copying the model.
Speaking about the surrender of Naxals, Prathap Reddy, IGP (western range), said that police reveal information about Naxal surrenders only when they are sure that the Naxal has really surrendered. The police are continuously attempting to get them to surrender, but reveal the relevant information to the media only when they feel confident about the process, he added.
Responding to a reporter’s question regarding habited and inhabited islands in the region, Mr. Reddy said that the police department is keeping an eye on these islands in collaboration with the Coast Guard.
