Police arrest 6, confiscate illegal explosives/equipment worth crores

Bantwal, April 16: Circle Inspector Nanjunde Gowda organized a surprise raid into a house located close to a stone quarry at Arthadka in Veerakambha near Vittla on April 16, Friday. 





                              


The police arrested the owner of the quarry and five others. The arrested are Tousif, the son of P B Ahmed alias Ammuchcha of Kasargod, Manager Sahadeva, Supervisor Prakash, and laborers Ahmed, Murthy, and Santhosh. The police have learned that Ajith Kamath of Karkala and R S Kini of Honnavar are Tousif’s partners in crime. Reportedly, the two are providing jelly stones to the railway department. 

The police have confiscated vehicles, equipment, and explosives worth crores. They have seized three Hitachi machines, four tractors, two jeeps, one loader, eight tippers, a crusher machine, eighteen bags of ammonium nitrate, 1000 electronic detonators, 650 gelatin sticks, and dynamo for explosion. 

The owner of the quarry, who employed more than 25 labourers, had a permit to conduct mining activities on 2.8 acres of land. However, police investigation has revealed that the owner was conducting mining activities on illegally acquired land too. Mr. Gowda said that the revenue department intends to conduct a thorough investigation in this regard. 

The police team, which conducted the raid, included Sanjeeva Purusha, Girish, Vijay Kumar, Jayakumar, Lokesh, Vadiraj, Taranath, Prashanth, and driver Vijeshwaran. Shashidhar, the deputy superintendent of police, and Harishchandra inspected the spot and guided the investigation. The complaint was registered by SI Savitra Teja.
