Mangalore, Mar 29: The Karnataka State EPF Pensioners’ Association organized a protest in front of the Bhavishya Nidhi Bhavan at Falnir on March 29, Tuesday demanding improvements in the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) of 1995.

Protest

Secretary Sukumar said in his protest address that the central and state governments are providing pensions to all officials as per their posts. He sarcastically added that the government might also give pension to the police dog, but it won’t consider providing pension for labourers.

He demanded that amendments shoud be done to EPS 1995 so that labourers can get a minimum pension of Rs. 1,500 per month. He alleged that workers’ demands to improve EPS 1995 have been falling on deaf ears for the past 16 years.

Revealing further details regarding the workers’ struggles, he said that the pension scheme was sent to the Supreme Court, which has delivered a pro central government verdict and added that banks do not release the pension money, which is credited on the second of every month.

President Vasanth Achari said that the pension should be linked to the Consumers’ Price Index to provide dearness allowance because of the ever-rising prices of essential commodities. He also said that the benefit of return of capital should be restored.

J. Balakrishna Shetty, the treasurer; Ramani Moodubidri; U. B. Lokayya; Sanjeeva Bangera; Sadashiva Das; Sunil Kumar Bajal; and many others were also present.
