Mangalore, Jan3,2013 : The Village Accountant of Pavoor Gram Panchayat in Mangalore Taluk was caught red handed by the Lokayukta sleuths on January 2, Wednesday while he was accepting bribe from a person for issuing death certificates.
The arrest took place on the basis of a complaint lodged by one Rithesh Rai of Killur in Pavoor village. He had approached the village accountant J Ningesh of Hoovinahadagali in Bellary and had submitted applications for the death certificates of 20 persons which were needed to transfer the rights of an ancestral land in his name.
It is learnt, the village accountant who had initially placed forth demand for a bribe of Rs 5000, had later agreed for Rs 3000.
Meanwhile, Rithesh had lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta which directed him to hand over to Ningesh, some currency note smeared with chemical and the latter was trapped while he was accepting the bribe.
Lokayukta DySP P Vittaldasa Rai, SP Mohandas, inspectors Umesh Shet, Dilip Kumar and others took part in the operation.
