Patrao’s land must be returned to him: Pejawar Seer

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, July 8: Shri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt said that Mr. Gregory Patrao’s land, which the KIADB had acquired in spite of the court passing a stay order, should be returned to him immediately and all the criminal cases against his supporters should be withdrawn. He was speaking after participating in the indefinite hunger strike organized by Gregory Patrao and his supporters in front of the DC’s office on July 8, Thursday, which is now in its 22nd day.

The Swamiji also said that MSEZ’s second phase of acquiring 235 acres of land is pending, owing to which he has urged the government not to permit the KIABD to acquire any more land. He said that he would go on a long-term hunger strike if the land acquisition continues.

Stating that he was not aware of CM B. S. Yeddyurappa’s request to the MRPL to give an acre of land since he was out of station and that he had entrusted the case of Mr. Patrao to MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and DC V. Ponnuraj during that time, the Swamiji urged the government to satisfy the demands of Mr. Patrao on humanitarian grounds.

Speaking about the terrible situation created by MSEZ, Fr. William Martis said that the name of Mangalore Special Economic Zone must be changed to Mangalore Selling Economic Zone because such so-called developmental activities are costing people their independence and are giving scant respect to their love for land. While the poor farmers are observing “Rodhana Samavesha,” the BJP party is celebrating its “Sadana Samavesha” in Bangalore, he alleged.

Fr. Onil Fernandes of CODP; Harikrishna Punaroor, the former president of Karnataka Sahithya Parishad; M. Madhukar Amin, the president of Agricultural Land Conservative Committee; Muhammed Kunni, the president of the youth wing of Jamaath-e-Islami Hind; and several other leaders spoke on the occasion.

T. R. Bhat, the spokesperson of Karavali Karnataka Janabhivriddhi Vedike, delivered the introductory speech.
