Kolkata, March 1, 2026: India national cricket team stormed into the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a five-wicket victory over West Indies cricket team in a must-win Super 8 clash at Eden Gardens on Sunday.
Chasing a daunting 196, India reached 196/5 in 19.2 overs, registering their highest successful run chase in T20 World Cup history. Sanju Samson starred with a blistering unbeaten 97 off 26 balls, sealing the game in emphatic fashion. He was supported by Shivam Dube at the crease, while Tilak Varma chipped in with a quickfire 27 off 15 deliveries.

Earlier, the West Indies, put in to bat by India captain Suryakumar Yadav, posted a competitive 195/4 in their 20 overs. Skipper Shai Hope and makeshift opener Roston Chase added 68 for the first wicket — the highest opening stand against India in the ongoing tournament. Rovman Powell (34*) and Jason Holder (37*) then stitched an unbeaten 76-run partnership to power the total.
The defending champions’ victory knocked out the two-time winners and set up a high-voltage semi-final against England cricket team — a repeat of the 2024 last-four clash. The second semi-final will be played on March 5 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
In the first semi-final on March 4, South Africa national cricket team will take on New Zealand national cricket team at Eden Gardens.
