Mangalore, Sep 20, 2013: A pungent smell of  leaked gas which pervaded several parts of the city on September 20, Friday caused panic. Residents of several parts of the city like Kulur, Maryhill, Baikampady, Yeyyadi and Yekkur  complained about the odour.

If some sources said there was a gas leakage in MPRL other sources said it was at Baikampady industrial area. However, MRPL came up with a clarification that there was no gas leakage in its plant. The release also stated that Environment Department Engineers will be trying to identify  the  gas that is floating in the air using their specialized device.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner N Prakash had directed MRPL to inspect its  plant for any possible leakage.

Fire service department has  sent its personnel to various parts of the city to detect gas leakage but could not find anything. Even Chief Fire Officer Varadaraj confirmed that the fire service station received several complaints of leaked gas odour.
