Mangalore, August 18: A freak road accident near Paladka Church, Moodabidri today resulted in the tragic death of Palladka Parish Priest Fr Dolphy Monteiro(45).

Fr. Dolphy Monteiro, who had only recently taken charge as the New Parish Priest of Paladka had started off on his bike from Paladka church for Moodbidri town .  While on his way, his vehicle skidded and he got thrown off into a nearby well lying in the compound of a local resident, Angeline DSouza (w/o David D’Souza known as Davidam in the locality). The accident occurred at 9.30am.


Though the house of Angeline DSouza is located near the main road of Paladka, the house well is situated adjacent to the Paladka Church Road which meets the Paladka Main Road. Hence the both the road and the well share a common wall.

A freak road accident near Paladka Church, Moodabidri today resulted in the tragic death of Palladka Parish Priest Fr Dolphy Monteiro(45).


Due to the impact of the crash, the bike was found crushed into the wall of the road. It is speculated that the bike may have skidded as it was raining heavily at the time and the priest must have got tossed into the well due to the impact.


Born on 17the June 1965 at Modankap, Bantwal, Fr. Dolphy Monteiro was ordained on 9the May 1992. He had earlier served at Jeppu and Nerampady parishes. After completing his studies in the United States, Fr Dolphy Monteiro took charge as the parish priest of St Ignatius Loyola Church, Paladka, Moodabidri on May 30, 2010.


A young and dynamic priest, he was gaining popularity among the parishioners of Paladka, when the tragedy struck him. His body has been sent to the government hospital for the post mortem and the funeral will be on Friday, 20th August 2010 at 10 A.M. at Paladka. The body will be kept for public viewing as well as to pay last respects to the departed soul from 8.00 am onwards.
