Over 1000 patients visit Lions Club free health camp

Mangalore, Nov 5, 2012 : Over 1000 patients benefited from a health camp held by Lions Club of Midtown Mangalore in association with Fr. Muller Medical College (FMMC) on Sunday.

 

helath 1Dr. Das Acharya, head of the department of community medicine at FMMC, said that as many as 1,200 patients from places such as Jyothi Nagar, Kavoor, Mullakadu, Kunjathbail, Bondel, Panjimogaru, Shanthinagar, and others registered before noon at the free medical check-up camp, which was held at Vidhya Jyothi Higher Primary School. As many as 40 doctors were present at the camp.

Dr. Acharya said that the camp was held for everybody although over 60% of those who turned up were from BPL families. The hospital organizes free camps annually, but this was the first camp organized in this area.

Free health cards worth Rs. 50 and Rs. 150 were given away during this health camp. Besides, patients were told that they will receive free spectacles within one week.

The largest number of patients flocked to the gynecology and ophthalmology sections. Gynecologist Dr. Vidhyashree Kamath said that 70 women approached the gynecology section.

Lions District 317-D Zone Chairperson Annie Philip said that this area has around 3000 BPL families, adding that 900 patients had benefited from the health camp held at Mullakadu last year.
