Mangaluru, May 20, 2025: Seeking a White Paper from the Congress-led State government on the financial health of the State, Mangaluru City North MLA, Y. Bharat Shetty, here on Monday, said that “zero development, high corruption and collapsing law and order” were the highlights of the government’s administration during the last two years.
Addressing the press, Dr. Shetty alleged that the government did not undertake any development project worth mentioning during its two-year tenure.
“The government’s administration is aimed at only vote bank politics,” the MLA alleged.
Stating that the contractors have termed the Congress as “60% commission government”, the MLA claimed that 1,600 farmers ended their lives in the State during the last two years.
Dr. Shetty alleged that Congress workers and leaders are interfering with the government’s administration and that the government has not released funds to take up major development projects.
Questioning the Congress celebrating two years of ‘Sadhana Samavesha’ at Hosapete on Tuesday, the MLA alleged that the Congress government is suppressing the voices of those who questioned the government.
The voices of Opposition MLAs and booth-level workers are being suppressed by making the police register cases against them, he alleged. “The government has adopted arm-twisting techniques to suppress the voices,” the MLA alleged.
Dr. Shetty said that the government should make it clear what its contribution to Dakshina Kannada and particularly to Mangaluru has been in the last two years.
Zero development, says V. Sunil Kumar
Meanwhile, Karkala MLA and State general secretary of BJP V. Sunil Kumar, alleged that the State government’s development is now limited to Bengaluru and Mysuru, with the rest of the State witnessing ‘‘zero development’’.
Taking to ‘X’, Mr. Kumar criticised the Congress government for organising the ‘Sadhana Samavesha’ at a time when parts of Bengaluru are reeling under heavy rain and crumbling infrastructure.
He sought justification for such celebrations while Bengaluru struggles with severe waterlogging and traffic snarls.
‘‘What is there to celebrate when you have murdered the city’s infrastructure?’’ he asked.
Mr. Kumar also sought that the government release a White Paper on how much has actually been spent on Bengaluru’s infrastructure in the last two years.
