New art centre Mangalore Art Hub to be inaugurated in city

Mangalore, Mar 1, 2012: Mangalore Art Hub, a new art centre located in Devaki Nivas, Matadakani, I Cross, Urwa Market, will be inaugurated on Saturday.

Speaking about the new art centre at a press conference, Madhusudhan Kumar, Koti Prasad Alva, and Dr. Pramila Salian said that the facility sprawls over 2000sq.ft. and will be devoted to the promotion of art. A section of the centre will be devoted for art exhibitions.

The inauguration ceremony will include an exhibition of sculpture, traditional paintings, photographs, and ceramic works. Besides, a cultural show will also be presented. 

Francis Newton, the founder of Progressive Artists’ Group, an internationally renowned group, will display traditional oil paintings of Mohenjodaro. Popular artists of the forties, S. Bakri, K. H. Ara, and S. H. Rajah, will also display their works. Seventies’ artists such as A. A. Raiba, K. K. Hebbar, Kishori Kaul, Ambadas, Rekha Rao, and others will also display their works, and present day artists such as P. S. Punchithaya, Ramesh Rao, Dr. Pramila Salian, Ganesh Somayaji, and Jagath Ammunje will also display their works. 

The centre will also conduct training classes to train and encourage young artists and will serve as a forum to hone extra curricular skills among school children. Artists of national and international fame can display their works here. Besides, the centre will collaborate with other art forums to organize art programs. Plans are afoot to develop the centre as a tourist centre.

Artist Ramesh Rao will inaugurate the permanent gallery. Artist Madhusudhan Kumar will release his book on art on this occasion. Ganesh Somayaji, the famous artist, will launch the official website of the centre. 

This art hub is being established in honor of late Shrimati Devaki Jarappa and will be managed by Dr. Pramila Salian and Poornanath.
