New DC promises measures to ensure free and fair polls

Mangalore, Mar 29, 2013: Harsh Gupta took charge as new Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada on March 28, Thursday.


Speaking at the press meet held on March 29, Friday, the new DC who had served Puttur as Additional DC 14 years ago, said “It is a home coming feeling for me.”

The new DC said he had to take charge immediately as per the directive of the Election Commission and added he would soon be holding discussions  with officials concerned regarding the upcoming election. He also promised to  work towards ensuring free and fair elections. Flying squad, video viewing team and surveillance team are ready to review the implementation of code of conduct, the DC said.


Harsh Gupta informed that he  will make a list of those officials who have been on election duty thrice earlier and write to the state authority for changes in their duty.


The public can call 1077 at the DC office for registering any election related  complaint, the DC said and added that the complaint will be forwarded to the officials concerned.


The DC also assured that additional police personnel will be deployed in the Naxal affected areas for smooth conduct of election.


ADC K Dayanand said that he has received three complaints as per the code of conduct during the ULB elections including presence of Deputy Speaker N Yogish Bhat at the press meet conducted by MUDA Chairman S Ramesh. Another complaint is regarding  the distribution of cheques to beneficiaries of government programme in Moodbidri.The  complaints of violation of  code of conduct will be forwarded to the monitoring committee for review, he said.
