Mangaluru, Feb 21, 2026: Although Brahmashri Narayana Guru was born in Kerala, his movement has gained recognition across the world. He is the world teacher of modern India, said Satchidananda Swamiji, President of Sivagiri Mutt, Kerala.
He was speaking at a religious discourse held at Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple after the ‘Sri Kudroli Kshetra Theerthaatane’ organised on Saturday under the resolve ‘Namma Nadige – Sri Guruvinedege’ (Our Walk Towards the Guru). The event was held in remembrance of the day when Brahmashri Narayana Guru consecrated the Shiva Linga at the temple.
He said the day is sacred in connection with the consecration of the Shiva Linga by Narayana Guru at Kudroli. While annual pilgrimages are held at Sabarimala Temple and at Sivagiri Mutt, Sivagiri pilgrimages are also conducted in Mumbai, Bahrain, Dubai and Kuwait. He expressed happiness that a similar pilgrimage has now begun in Mangaluru. Though Narayana Guru was born in Kerala, his reform movement has earned fame throughout India and across the globe, he added.
A Narayana Guru conference was held in the Australian Parliament, and Sivagiri Mutt has received the Australian Global Peace Award. There are Narayana Guru temples in ten states of the United States, as well as in London and Fiji. Every village in Kerala has a Narayana Guru temple. Under different names, Narayana Guru has millions of followers across various states in the country, he said.
Brahmananda Saraswati Swamiji of Kanyadi Kshetra said that while Sage Vedavyasa preserved the Vedas, it was Narayana Guru who spread their essence among the common people. Through him, a social revolution emerged in Kudroli, which was uniquely carried forward by Janardhana Poojary, he said.
Eeshavithaldas Swamiji of Kemaru Kshetra said Narayana Guru is a universal teacher. Since gurus are the wealth of society, they must be freed from the confines of caste and colour, he remarked.
Several other seers including Mohanadas Swamiji of Manil Kshetra, Vikhyatananda Swamiji of Solur Mutt, Brahmananda Swamiji, Satyananda Theertha Swamiji, Devatmananda Swamiji, Veerajananda Swamiji, Vithalagiri Taponidhi Maharaj, Shankarananda Swamiji and Suryeshwara Swamiji were present.

‘Kudroli Theerthaatane’ Spreads Narayana Guru’s Message
The ‘Kudroli Theerthaatane’ organised in Mangaluru on Saturday to commemorate the sacred occasion of Narayana Guru consecrating the Shiva Linga at Kudroli conveyed his message of unity. Devotees dressed in yellow garments — symbolising Narayana Guru’s wisdom — walked through the main streets of Mangaluru, creating the impression of a flowing yellow river. With placards carrying the Guru’s teachings and yellow festoons adorning the route, the pilgrimage was conducted without discrimination of caste, religion or political affiliation, emerging as a unifying event that connected human hearts.
The pilgrimage began at 9 am with the reception of the head of the Sivagiri Peetham at the Central Railway Station. The procession then proceeded to Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall and from there passed through Clock Tower Road, K.S. Rao Road, Manjeshwar Govinda Pai Circle, PVS Circle and Narayana Guru Circle, covering about 7 km before reaching Kudroli Temple. Arrangements were made to provide refreshments and lunch to the devotees who took part in the procession.
