Mysore Dasara to be publicized to boost tourism

Mangalore, Sep 27: A band of artistes will be taking a tour of Madikeri, Chitradurga, Dharwad, Karwar, Belgaum, Mangalore (DK), and Tumkur in a decorated van to promote the Mysore Dasara festivities, boost the tourism industry of Mysore, and to give publicity to the Dasara event. The van will be touring along the main streets of chief cities.

The officials of the Mysore Information Department and the special officer for the Mysore Dasara festival have begun touring a number of districts from September 26 in 4 teams. The tour will continue till Oct 1. The teams are called Chaitanya Art Team, Viveka Team, Chetana Teams, and Spandana Women’s Team. The teams will visit important towns in each district.

 

A jatha was inaugurated by Mangalam Naik, the assistant director of the Kannada Culture department, in a traditional manner with the beating of chende drums, as part of this publicity campaign.

On Monday, the Kannada Culture Department and the Mysore Art Team will move in the city with local Yakshagana troupes in costume, huli vesha teams, and women’s chende teams to publicize the 10-day festival in Mysore. The purpose of the campaign is to attract tourists to the world famous Dasara festival, which is to commence on Oct 8, closely following the Mahalaya Amavasye.
