Mulki, January 3, 2026: Three accused allegedly attempted to assault and extort money from the owner of buffaloes that won prizes at the Mulki Kambala, demanding weekly payments and threatening him by asking whether he would give the cattle for slaughter.
The incident took place at Angaragudde village under the Mulki Police Station limits. The accused reportedly barged into the house of Shamsuddin, a resident of Angaragudde Kenchanakere, and threatened him to pay hafta (extortion money).
The accused have been identified as Shyamasundar Shetty, Akshay Poojary, and Suveen Kanchan. Shamsuddin is looking after agricultural land, plantations, plots, and a house belonging to a Mumbai-based businessman.
Shamsuddin’s buffaloes had won prizes at the Mulki Arasu Kambala. The accused allegedly demanded money and a gold chain received as part of the prize and attempted to assault him when he refused.
Local residents intervened and chased away the accused. A case was registered at the Mulki Police Station in connection with the incident. Following an investigation, Mulki police arrested Shyamasundar Shetty, Akshay Poojary, and Suveen Kanchan.
