Mangalore, April 5, 2013 : In a latest addition to the spate of accidents reported from the district since April 4, a coastal security policeman who was on duty at Bappanadu in Mulki was fatally knocked down by a speeding lorry in the wee hours of April 5, Friday.
The deceased police personnel has been identified as Rajappa (27) hailing from Honnali in Davangere.
The mishap took place when Rajappa and three other coastal security personnel were on duty at the Bappanadu checkpost. Rajappa was checking a vehicle heading towards Mangalore from Udupi when a speeding lorry knocked him down and fled the scene at around 3 am.
Rajappa is learnt to have died on the spot. Rajappa was posted in the district a year ago and is survived by his wife who is a teacher and is pregnant. It is learnt, they had married just one and a half years ago.
Mulki police have registered a case.
