Mangaluru, October 6, 2024: Mumthaz Ali, brother of former MLA Mohiuddin Bava, has been reported missing after his car was discovered in an accident condition on the Kuloor bridge on Sunday morning.
The incident was reported early Sunday, prompting fire and rescue teams, along with swimming experts, to begin searching the river. Senior police officers quickly initiated an investigation at the scene.
Concerns have heightened after Mumthaz Ali reportedly sent a WhatsApp message to his daughter stating, "I will not return." He is known as the chairman of the Misbah Group of Educational Institutions and is a prominent figure in the local Jamaat. Family members, including former MLA Mohiuddin Bava, were present at the scene.
City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal provided details about the incident, stating, "We received information this morning regarding a businessman, Mumthaz Ali, whose vehicle was found near the Kuloor bridge. He may have jumped from the bridge. Local police responded and initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest he left his house around 3 AM, drove around the city, and parked near the bridge around 5 AM. His car showed signs of an accident, and his daughter subsequently informed the police. Investigations are ongoing, with SDRF and Coast Guard teams searching the river to determine if he entered the water." Further updates are awaited.
