Belthangady, Jun 30, 2026: Traffic on the Charmadi Ghat highway was disrupted for nearly an hour on Monday night after a tree fell across the road near the 10th hairpin bend, causing a major traffic jam.
The incident occurred around 7 pm, completely blocking the road. Vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the highway for nearly one-and-a-half hours.
Heavy rain, dense fog and poor visibility delayed efforts to remove the fallen tree and restore traffic.
Deputy Range Forest Officer Ranjith, along with forest staff Gopal, Manohar and Ismail, motorists and local volunteers, worked together to clear the obstruction and reopen the road.
Earlier on Monday morning, another tree had partially fallen onto the road near the second hairpin bend, disrupting traffic.
The Charmadi Ghat stretch is known to have hundreds of vulnerable trees, and incidents of trees collapsing onto the roadway during heavy rainfall are a recurring problem, frequently affecting traffic movement during the monsoon season.
