Mangaluru, July 1, 2026: Three members of a family were killed and three others rescued after a rain-triggered hill collapse buried a house in Naguri, behind the Kankanady Police Station limits, in Mangaluru on Tuesday.
The tragedy occurred following heavy rainfall that lashed the coastal city, causing a hillock to suddenly collapse onto a tiled house. Six members of the same family were trapped under the debris.
Rescue personnel, assisted by local residents, launched an immediate operation to clear the rubble and search for the trapped occupants. A woman and her two daughters were found dead and their bodies were recovered from the debris.
Three others—a man and two young women—were rescued alive and shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The rescue operation continued on a war footing until all six family members were accounted for. Officials confirmed that three people lost their lives while three others survived the incident.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Darshan visited the spot and reviewed the rescue operations.
As heavy rains continue to batter the coastal region, the district administration has urged residents living near hill slopes and landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
