Mangaluru: Man missing after leaving for mosque; search launched in Phalguni River

Mangaluru, July 1, 2026: A 40-year-old man who left his home saying he was going to a mosque has mysteriously gone missing within the limits of the Konaje Police Station, prompting his family to file a missing person complaint.

The missing man has been identified as Mohammed Ashraf, a resident of Mangalanti Quarters in Manjanady village.


Missing

According to the complaint, Ashraf left his home on his scooter at around 4.30 pm on Tuesday, June 30, informing his family that he was heading to the Urumane Mosque and would return shortly. However, he neither reached the mosque nor returned home.

After searching for him at various places without success, his family lodged a complaint with the Konaje Police. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Ashraf’s scooter was found abandoned on the Gurupura Bridge on the outskirts of the city. Following the discovery, personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services, along with local swimmers, launched a search operation in the Phalguni (Gurupura) River.
